New Year’s resolutions – You’re forgetting one thing…

Healthy eating – check, new gym membership – check, pelvic floor strength…?

January is the time when we’re all about fresh starts and new habits. We set resolutions, join gyms in sheffield, dust off trainers, and maybe even commit to a Couch to 5K. But in all the talk about getting fitter, eating healthier, and embracing self-care, have you ever thought about making this the year you never leak again?

Yes, you heard me right. While we’re busy planning how to strengthen our glutes, core, or arms, there’s one essential group of muscles that’s often ignored: the pelvic floor. These hardworking muscles play a key role in bladder control, balance, and so much more. Yet for so many women, they only become a focus when something goes wrong.

“But I Already Do My Pelvic Floor Exercises!”

Great! Doing your pelvic floor exercises or kegels is a fantastic start, and I applaud you for prioritising your pelvic health. But let me ask you this: are you still leaking? Do you find yourself reaching for a TENA lady “just in case” or crossing your legs every time you feel a sneeze coming on? If so, it might be time to dig deeper.

Here’s the thing—your pelvic floor doesn’t work in isolation. It’s connected to the rest of your body, working alongside your core, hips, and glutes to keep everything functioning smoothly. Strengthening it requires a holistic approach that goes beyond just squeezing.

Put another way – if you wanted to get a strong arm, would you just do endless bicep curls without a weight? Or would you do a variety of exercises like push ups, pull downs, tricep dips, etc….? So why do we expect the pelvic floor to be super strong by just squeezing it every now and then?

I get it. I’ve been there. For years, I religiously did my pelvic floor squeezes, but every time I jumped around with my kids, or tried running, a little bit of wee would escape. At the time, I too just assumed it was part of being a woman, however, when I had to run for a train and completely wet myself I realised that the kegels I had been doing were never going to get me leak free.

As a physiotherapist with a background in pelvic health, I knew there had to be a better way than just kegels or pelvic floor squeezes to stop leaking. Fast forward 3 years of research and trial and error and voila! I created the Pelvic Strength Exercise Class—a supportive space for women like you and me who are fed up with leaks holding us back.

The class isn’t about endless kegels; it’s about rethinking how we strengthen the pelvic floor. We focus on functional, full-body exercises that help your pelvic floor work in harmony with the rest of your body. It’s fun, sweaty, and designed to leave you feeling stronger and more confident with every session.

Strengthening Together

Leaking might be common, but it’s NOT normal. Yet so many of us simply accept it as part of life. The truth is, with the right exercises and support, you can take back control.

Joining the Pelvic Strength Exercise Class is more than just showing up for a workout—it’s about becoming part of a community. You’ll meet other women who understand what you’re going through, and together we’ll tackle leaks head-on. There’s a magic that happens when women come together to support one another, and I see it every week in class.
