Menopause Awareness Month October 2024

Menopause Awareness Month

October is Menopause Awareness Month – a hugely important time to raise awareness of this inevitable life phase.

At Thrive, we support women through the various stages of Menopause. It’s our goal to demystify the process and help women understand what to expect and how to navigate this change with confidence.

The sad truth is that there’s a lack of information about Menopause, and women need to work extra hard to learn about it and understand what it means for them. Plus, Menopause is not a one-size-fits-all process. It can affect women in a myriad of ways. Some may experience no symptoms at all and sail through the Menopause without a second thought. Other women may feel completely debilitated by symptoms – often without the right support or understanding from medical professionals.

So it’s really important to mark Menopause Awareness Month and give it the consideration it deserves.

In this blog, we’ll talk a bit about what Menopause actually is, the different stages and how to evaluate and treat any symptoms you might experience if you’re in this phase of life.

If you have any questions or need advice, please do email us at hello@thrive-physiotherapy.co.uk and we’ll happily chat through your questions.

What is Menopause?

As we celebrate Menopause Awareness Month, we’re often asked what Menopause actually is. The menopause is the actual day that marks 12 consecutive months (to the day) you have not had your period.

Perimenopause is the stage before the menopause when symptoms begin to appear. It can start a few months to years before your periods stop and can persist for quite some time. Women, on average, experience perimenopausal symptoms from 45 years old. However, symptoms can start as early as your 20s or be as late as your 60s.

This can happen naturally or be quite sudden due to surgery and/or illness.

The post-menopause is a new chapter in your life. It starts the very next day after the menopause and lasts for the rest of your life!

During this time, many of the bothersome perimenopausal symptoms you may have experienced gradually decrease over the following years. Along with the physical changes that occur after the menopause, post-menopausal women are at increased risk of a number of health conditions, such as osteoporosis, joint and breast pain and heart disease. That’s why our Menopause MOT is such an important service.

What is a Menopause MOT?

Thrive provides Physiotherapy for Menopause, including a Menopause MOT, which helps you understand where your body is at, what it may be struggling with and how best to address these concerns.

A Menopause MOT is a wonderful resource to help you understand exactly where you are in your Menopause journey. There is very little Menopause awareness, support and information available to women (sadly!) so we will demystify the process, help you understand each phase and provide the tools and training to ensure you navigate this life stage with confidence. If you’re not sure whether you’re going through Perimenopause or Menopause, we can help! Get in touch and we can chat through any symptoms and guide you through the process of understanding Menopause.

Our Menopause MOT will help you feel better as you continue your journey through Menopause with knowledge and confidence – it’s a game changer! If you have any questions or would like to find out more, do get in touch by emailing hello@thrive-physiotherapy.co.uk and we’ll happily chat through anything you need to know.

Thrive has also teamed up with Mud & Muscle to create a menopausal strength community, challenging you to lift heavy and feel amazing with a group of likeminded women. Mud & Muscle will create an exercise programme that targets your problematic areas and builds strength.
