WHY we help mums in Sheffield

Many mums in Sheffield visit us because they need help with a particular issue. We treat common conditions like pelvic floor issues, prolapse, pain, menopause symptoms and general health queries.

Of course, the body undergoes a massive change when you have a baby. And it’s true that you may experience pain and leaks in the first few months post-partum. But if you find that these issues don’t improve naturally over time, you may need extra support.

A lot of the mums in Sheffield we help have held off on getting support for their physical issues after having a child or children. They may be ashamed, embarrassed or simply believe their issues are all in their heads. This is simply not true. It’s our goal to empower you with the right knowledge and tools so you can continue your symptom-free journey long after you leave our Physiotherapy clinics in Sheffield!

HOW we help mums in Sheffield

We run two Physiotherapy clinics in Sheffield – one in Sharrow Vale and one in Nether Edge. At these clinics, we see patients on a one-to-one basis. We’re able to treat a range of conditions – and each patient is unique.

Here’s how we help mums in Sheffield, specifically;

  • * Aches and Pains – At Thrive, we take a holistic approach to your aches and pains. We’ll provide physiotherapy that targets the site of pain and the underlying causes of it too. Pain is very rarely tissue damage. In fact, more often than not, is a sign some muscles are working harder than others. Your body will change a great deal over time, and this can impact your pain. From pregnancy, to breastfeeding, to menopause, your hormones and changing shape will impact your muscles and your body, causing pain. To understand you and your pain, we at Thrive will provide a detailed assessment on your first appointment. We’ll review your body’s journey and assess you as a whole, rather than just the area of your pain.
  • * Bladder concerns – Urgency incontinence is a common bladder concern for women. You may experience leakage caused by a sudden, overwhelming desire to go to the toilet. In this case, the bladder becomes easily irritable and wants to empty NOW! Stress incontinence is leakage caused by an increased sudden pressure on the bladder from exercise, coughing, sneezing, laughing, or lifting, which the pelvic floor struggles to counteract. These bladder concerns are NOT a normal part of ageing, so you do not need to put up with them. Thrive physiotherapy for women works with you to understand your symptoms, how they are impacting your life and what your triggers may be. We’ll then do a holistic assessment of you – because you are more than just a pelvic floor.
  • * Prolapse – There are different degrees of prolapse – mild (prolapse is inside the vagina), moderate (the prolapse is as low as the vaginal opening) and severe (the prolapse comes out of the vagina). Pelvic organ prolapse symptoms vary greatly and do not necessarily reflect the size of the prolapse. Prolapse symptoms can be impacted by how you move your body, the time of day or even your hormones. That’s why we, at Thrive, help you to manage your prolapse symptoms by taking time to understand your body’s journey.
  • * Lymphatic Drainage MassageLymphatic drainage massage employs gentle, rhythmic strokes that target specific lymph nodes and pathways, encouraging the natural flow of lymphatic fluid throughout the body. The technique involves strategic manipulation of soft tissues, promoting the elimination of waste products, toxins, and excess fluids.

Group Classes

Thrive Physiotherapy also offers group classes for mums in Sheffield.

Our Pelvic Strength exercise class is a comprehensive 8 week programme designed for women at all stages of life. From postnatal to post-menopausal, this exercise class welcomes all women who want to start exercising again but are fearful of leaking.

Classes take a whole body approach to strengthening your pelvic floor. They combine breathing exercises, with core work and strengthening exercises to help get your pelvic floor working optimally in every movement you do. This will give you the confidence to move fearlessly again. You can find out more about our pelvic strength classes here.
